Finding A Cure For Catie!

February 28th, 2017

Catie Castellini was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called CDKL5 around her 2nd birthday.  CDKL5 results in early on-set seizures, and, often severe neuro-development impairment. At the time of Catie’s diagnosis, there was only 200 known cases in the world making it a very rare disease.  CDKL5 is considered a variant form of Rett syndrome, a genetic mutation with similar features that occurs in young girls.  Catie and her family are great friends and supportors of Chica Sport and now we want to support Catie and help find cure!

Because it is so rare, support for research to discover the causes and hopefully a cure for CDKL5 is still growing.  Chica Sport is committed to helping in those efforts.  A special Chica Band was designed with the message of Hope, Love, Cure!  For every Hope, Love, Cure Chica Band that is purchased, Chica Sport will donate $4 to the International Foundation for CDKL5 Research.    To purchase a Chica Band to support Catie and all the other CDKL5 kids, click here  or search CDKL5 on our website.  To find out more about CDKL5, please visit the CDKL5 website,

Resolutions Already in a Rut?

Don’t Pull an Atlanta Falcons on Your New Year’s Resolution

Super Bowl got your resolution in a rut? You can still win your game of getting fit!

Guacamole, wings, beer. Indulge in any of these this past Super Bowl weekend? That OT would have made the best of us turn to the buffalo chicken dip to cope with the stress. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We’ve noticed that the gym gets a little empty after the Super Bowl. Coincidence? We think not. Here’s how to stay motivated and get that New Year’s Resolution back on track.

Tip #1 Try a new class

Have you run around the track one too many times and feel like a racehorse? We feel your pain, and the Kentucky Derby isn’t even on our radar yet. A mint julep does sound good, but opt for a new workout class instead. Spinning, Zumba, Piloxing, Barre, TRX, hot yoga, or rowing- the possibilities are endless! Switching up your workout routine will remind you that you can have fun and sweat at the same time. Take that chips and queso.

Tip #2 Enlist your friends

Been doing this on your own? There’s strength in numbers. Having a buddy next to you during Zumba will make it easier to laugh it off when you step left instead of right. Friends also hold you accountable, and you can catch up on the latest gossip from The Bachelor in between reps.

Tip #3 Sign up for a race

Tis the season for 5Ks, marathons, and triathlons. If you have a goal, you are more likely to stick with your training. Look for fun runs around your city; a race doesn’t have to feel like a chore. At some races, you can get a donut or beer at every mile. That’s some impressive multitasking.

Tip #4 Get new gear

Whenever you go shopping, you know that you’re excited to wear what you’ve bought. Take this excitement and channel it into burning calories. Running in a new blue tank top instead of that ratty old t-shirt will make you want to do another lap- and you don’t have to break the bank to do this! Old Navy and TJMaxx have great options to help you look cute on a budget. Also, try adding a new headband, like this one, to put a little sparkle in your step.

Live by these tips and you’ll be on your way to having abs like Lady Gaga!
